About Ellington Leather

The backbone of Ellington bags is their beautiful, thick, supple leather. It's tanned by old world methods in large wooden drums and left as natural as possible. The colors are rich and warm: natural, chocolate brown, and black.

During the dyeing stage, hides receive their first exposure to color. They are soaked in aniline dye, a translucent, colored dye that permeates the hide to bring out its natural markings, much like stain on wood.

The cell structure of each hide determines how the dye is absorbed. Loose areas of skin for instance, typically accept more dye and appear darker. There are color variations within each hide, and from hide to hide.
Leatheršs natural markings and color variations are part of its natural, individual beauty. These subtle shading variations confirm the quality of the leather.

Ellington does not spray color finish their leathers, and because of this they select only "A" grade hides for our products. The natural finish (or "crust" as tanners refer to it) is extremely difficult to achieve, but leaves Ellington leather goods with a smooth, rugged hand and clear grain.

Ellington's Tumbled Leather has a pebbled grain and is tanned to a super soft hand giving the pieces a casual, relaxed look.

Elliington's newest and very popular Vintage leather is rustic, warm and full of character. The unique tanning process leaves it with a burnished tip that adds an extra rich look and feel to the leather. Think cowboy, think rich rancher and we think you'll love the vintage leather that ages like an old horse's saddle.

Ellington guarantees the quality and workmanship of all of their products for one year from the date of purchase and will exchange or repair defective or damaged merchandise. This warranty is valid for normal wear, not against stains, pen marks or misuse.
